BRING YOUR BIKE ON BOARD
TO EXPLORE CHICAGOLAND
For avid bike riders and families looking to explore Chicagoland on two
wheels, look no further than Metra.
Metra is now offering specialized bike cars on multiple lines, providing
riders with more options to enjoy the outdoors and explore our region’s
many attractions.
Bike cars are available on both weekend and weekday trains. Riders can
identify the bike cars with their blue and white color scheme, as well as a
white bicycle decal located next to the exterior doors.
Metra customers can use the bike cars to their advantage, whether they’re
commuting to the city and riding along the lakefront trail or exploring a
suburban trail by taking the MD-N line to the North Branch Trail System
that even leads into the Chicago Botanic Gardens. Other trail ideas with
corresponding lines and arrival stations include:
• Salt Creek Trail: BNSF to Riverside
• Major Taylor Trail: Rock Island to Beverly Hills
• The 606 along Bloomingdale Trail: MD-N to Healy
Additionally, Metra customers who are headed downtown to their offices
and would like to bike the last mile will enjoy this easy, safe and greener
way of getting to their workplace.
Please note that the bike car spots are available on a first-come, first-
served basis. To learn more, visit metra.com/bikecarprogram.
VISIT CHICAGO'S ONLY NATIONAL PARK
Chicago’s Pullman Historic District was designated a
National Monument in 2015 by President Obama, making
it the first National Park Service unit in Chicago. Now, the
monument’s new state-of-the-art Visitor Center is having
its grand opening this Labor Day weekend. The center
will be housed in the historic Pullman Company clock
tower building.
A must for railroad buffs, and those interested in the
history of Chicago and America’s labor movement, the
monument showcases the planned industrial community
created by George Pullman, the sleeping car magnate.
Beyond its place in railroad history, the famous Pullman
Strike of 1894 led President Grover Cleveland to create
Labor Day as a federal holiday.
To learn more, visit nps.gov/pull/index.htm. The Pullman
District is served by the Metra Electric Line. Get off at
111th Street-Pullman or 115th Street-Kensington.
