Metra's Holiday Trains

Metra will be bringing holiday magic to the Metra Electric Line on three Saturdays this December, offering special Holiday Train rides with Santa and Mrs. Claus to a North Pole winter wonderland at Millennium Station.

The dates are:

  • Dec. 3 - sold out!
  • Dec 10
  • Dec. 17

Tickets for the special Holiday Trains, which must be purchased in advance, cost $5 and will be available starting Monday, Nov. 21 until they sell out from Metra Electric ticket agents at Millennium and Van Buren downtown or from Rock Island Line ticket agents at the LaSalle Street, Blue Island Vermont St., Midlothian, Oak Forest, Tinley Park, Tinley Park 80th Ave., New Lenox and Joliet stations (see addresses below). The tickets will not be available for purchase on the trains, on the Ventra app or from vending machines.

To spread even more holiday cheer, Metra is also donating tickets for the Dec. 3 train to Boys & Girls Clubs of Chicago.

“This is our way to bring a little bit of holiday joy to My Metra riders,” said Metra CEO/Executive Director Jim Derwinski. “Our trains are already safe, reliable, and comfortable, but they can be fun, too. We encourage everyone to climb on board and make Metra part of their holiday tradition.”

The decorated train will depart from University Park at 11 a.m. and make several stops to pick up riders on its way to the festive “North Pole” at Millennium Station (see attached schedule). The train ride will feature visits from Santa, Mrs. Claus or elves, as well as goody bag handouts and other fun. Kids can also visit Santa at Millennium Station, where there will be holiday music, face painting and other fun activities.

For the ride back home, the outbound Holiday Train will depart at 2:15 p.m., but for those wanting to spend more time enjoying the holiday sights and activities downtown, the Holiday Train tickets are valid for any outbound Metra Electric train on the date of the ticket.
